SUMMARY:Police Week 2021
DESCRIPTION:Photo Credit: 831 Photography\nIn 1962\, President John F. Kennedy declared May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and this week as National Police Week. The purpose of the proclamation was to pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime.\n  \nThis year the Denver Police Museum has planned a  number of outside socially distanced events to recognize our 72 fallen officers and the nearly 9\,000 individuals who have served the City and County of Denver since the founding of the department in 1859.\n  \nLIGHTING OF THE DENVER CITY AND COUNTY BUILDING\n A special thank you to the Denver City Office of Special Events for partnering with the Denver Police Museum to highlight National Police Week by lighting the Denver City and County Building blue May 8-15 2021. \n  \nOFFICIAL POLICE WEEK KICK OFF\nOn Saturday\, May 8\, 2021 volunteers\, retired officers\, fallen officer families and members of the scouts will be meeting at five major cemeteries to honor our fallen heroes.  At 11:00am\, simultaneous socially distanced ceremonies will be held at Crown Hill\, Riverside\, Mt. Olivet\, Fairmount and Fort Logan.  Volunteers will divide up\, in small groups\, to visit fallen officer graves with a wreath-laying ceremony and fallen officer flag placement. \n \nPhoto Credit: 831 Photography \nSIGN CEREMONIES FOR FALLEN OFFICERS\nJACOB BRENNER AND WILLIAM KEATING\nThe Denver Police Museum has undertaken a program to place memorial signs at the locations where fallen officers made the ultimate sacrifice.  During Police Week\, the Museum is planning to place two signs. On Monday\, May 10\, 2021 volunteers\, retired and active officers and family members will honor fallen officer\, Jacob Brenner at 3142 Osage Street at 1:30pm. \nOn Wednesday\, May 12\, 2021 fallen officer William Keating will be honored with a memorial sign on 8th Avenue between Kalamath and Santa Fe Avenue at 3:00pm.  The Denver Police Museum would like to thank the International Police Association for their generous donation which paid for this memorial sign.  Volunteers\, retired and active officers along with family members are expected to attend this event. \nQuestions? If you have questions or would like to attend these events please leave a message at the Denver Police Museum Archiving Center 720-913-6779 \n  \nDENVER POLICE FOUNDATION \nHONOR THE FALLEN RUN/WALK\nThe Denver Police Foundation is hosting an Honor the Fallen Run/Walk that aims to honor the 72 officers who have died in the line of duty. They are encouraging participants to complete a run or walk (at any distance you choose!) during police week Sunday\, May 9 through Saturday\, May 15\, 2021.
