DPM is fortunate to have space on the first floor of Denver Police Headquarters. This space allows the Museum to collect many historical items including police equipment, badges, and photographs. It also serves as the Museum’s basis for operations and public tours. Due to the numerous items in our collection, we also have additional space off site. When our permanent location is developed, we expect to have our full collection under one roof. With the small space at headquarters, artifact management is very important.
Earlier this month, retired Denver Police Officer Barb Cisneros organized an effort to streamline our display areas at the Museum. A major component of this effort included researching shelving options to showcase more artifacts and utilize the space more effectively. Barb found value priced shelving which is sturdy and can be utilized once DPM’s permanent home at 4700 Brighton Blvd opens.
On Saturday June 20, the Museum held a workday at headquarters to install the new shelving, remove the old bookcases, and reorganize the office. A special thank you to retired Detective Mike Martinez, Barb Cisneros, Mike Hesse, and museum volunteers Diane Degenhart, Renee Lang, and Bo Ramsour for spending a long Saturday getting the archiving center more organized and appealing to visitors! We also want to thank retired Denver Police Officer Fred Cisneros for his work cutting the plastic shelving and boards to ensure the new displays look first class.
