JOIN THE PUPS ON PATROL PROGRAM AND BECOME AN HONORARY POLICE K-9!*

We’re looking for a few good dogs (and their owners) to answer the call.

Do you want your pup to be a crime-sniffing super-canine? Pups On Patrol can help sniff out dangerous activity in your neighborhood.

Pups On Patrol is a program offered by the Denver Police Department to help train civilian pups how to spot danger.

This dog-walker watch program encourages dog-owners to assist law enforcement as extra eyes and ears while walking their dogs.

On May 18, 2019, the Denver Police Museum, in partnership with the Denver Police Department and Planned Pethood, invites dog owners to attend the Pups On Patrol class to allow good boys and girls to be certified in sniffing out crime.

Trainings will be held at 10:00am and 1:00pm. *Registration is required. Only one dog per owner. Dogs must be on leash.

Dedication Ceremony for Alson E. McCasland @ Crown Hill Cemetery
Sep 7 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Join the Denver Police Museum and the Denver Police Department as we honor Police Officer Alson E. McCasland with a dedication ceremony of a memorial marker located where this brave officer is buried.

Officer Alson McCasland died in a police motorcycle crash in April 1935, according to records from the Denver Police Museum. He was buried at Crown Hill Cemetery, but there is no marker bearing his name. The Denver Police Museum will honor this fallen officer with placement of a headstone on September 7, 2019. The Museum relies on donations and contributions from officer salaries to cover the cost of headstones for McCasland and others who made the ultimate sacrifice, but were buried in unmarked graves. A special thank you to Mile High Memorials and the Jeremy Bitner Foundation for the donation of a custom headstone for Officer McCasland.

Police Week 2021
May 8 – May 15 all-day

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy declared May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and this week as National Police Week. The purpose of the proclamation was to pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime.

This year the Denver Police Museum has planned a  number of outside socially distanced events to recognize our 72 fallen officers and the nearly 9,000 individuals who have served the City and County of Denver since the founding of the department in 1859.

LIGHTING OF THE DENVER CITY AND COUNTY BUILDING

A special thank you to the Denver City Office of Special Events for partnering with the Denver Police Museum to highlight National Police Week by lighting the Denver City and County Building blue May 8-15 2021.

OFFICIAL POLICE WEEK KICK OFF

On Saturday, May 8, 2021 volunteers, retired officers, fallen officer families and members of the scouts will be meeting at five major cemeteries to honor our fallen heroes.  At 11:00am, simultaneous socially distanced ceremonies will be held at Crown Hill, Riverside, Mt. Olivet, Fairmount and Fort Logan.  Volunteers will divide up, in small groups, to visit fallen officer graves with a wreath-laying ceremony and fallen officer flag placement.

SIGN CEREMONIES FOR FALLEN OFFICERS

JACOB BRENNER AND WILLIAM KEATING

The Denver Police Museum has undertaken a program to place memorial signs at the locations where fallen officers made the ultimate sacrifice.  During Police Week, the Museum is planning to place two signs. On Monday, May 10, 2021 volunteers, retired and active officers and family members will honor fallen officer, Jacob Brenner at 3142 Osage Street at 1:30pm.

On Wednesday, May 12, 2021 fallen officer William Keating will be honored with a memorial sign on 8th Avenue between Kalamath and Santa Fe Avenue at 3:00pm.  The Denver Police Museum would like to thank the International Police Association for their generous donation which paid for this memorial sign.  Volunteers, retired and active officers along with family members are expected to attend this event.
