Proposition 130

During the election last November 2024, Colorado voters approved Proposition 130 with 53 percent of the vote. This proposition was organized and funded largely by Joe O’Dea, a small business owner and community leader. Joe’s adoptive father was the late Lt. Edward J. O’Dea of the Denver Police Department. Joe’s successful measure requires the state legislature to invest $350 million to support our law enforcement officers statewide. This proposition also requires the state to pay the families of first responders killed in the line of duty after November 4, 2024 a million dollars. It also requires that the money be used to help officers on the street and can only be used for recruitment, retention, training, equipment and bonuses. Thanks to Joe’s leadership these funds will begin to be available in late 2026 to departments throughout the state. This is the largest investment in Colorado history in support of law enforcement and we hope that it will help strengthen and support our officers and their families for years to come. Thanks to the early and strong support of the board of the Denver Police Protective Association and the leadership of President Tyson Worrell, this proposition will now become a reality. The Museum recognized Joe and the O’Dea family at the luncheon for their leadership and continued service to the Denver Police Department.
